On July 21st, the Munster Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division secured charges with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office against a subject for an armed carjacking that occurred in Munster on January 3, 2021.
The subject is accused of carjacking two women at gunpoint while they sat in a vehicle in a driveway in the 8100 block of Monroe Avenue. The subject and another unidentified male approached the women’s vehicle and the subject produced a semi-automatic handgun while demanding the women’s vehicle, keys, and cell phone. The subject and the unidentified subject then fled in the women’s vehicle and a short time later the vehicle was found, unoccupied, in Chicago by their police department.
The vehicle was processed by Munster Police and evidence located within the vehicle was linked to the subject who is currently incarcerated in the Cook County Jail on unrelated armed vehicular hijacking charges in Cook County. The subject was charged by our police department with alleged robbery (two counts), auto theft, and theft (two counts).
