Tue, 06/01/2021 - 5:04pm by laughingcat

The Drama Group continues its Staged Readings series with THE COVER OF LIFE by R.T. Robinson and delicately nuanced and directed by Suzanne Ashlock. It is a poignant depiction of all the hopes and regrets women face, even when they are “happy” with their choices.

Show times for THE COVER OF LIFE are 7:30pm beginning Friday, June 4, 5, 11 and 12; and Sunday matinees at 2:00pm June 6 and 13

The Drama Group has a new ticketing service!  We are now using BookTix Ticketing and Livestreaming for show tickets when we resume live performances, currently planned for the resumption of our 90th year in the Fall of 2021.  In the meantime, we will be streaming our Staged Play Readings and other virtual events on BookTixLive, with tickets being available by going to The Drama Group BookTix website http://dg.booktix.com/  where you will be directed to set up your account with The Drama Group-BookTix Box Office.

Your introduction to using BookTix will be an opportunity to watch a Staged Play Reading production of THE COVER OF LIFE by R.T.Robinson and directed by Suzanne Ashlock.  FREE tickets are available now by going to your newly created DG/BookTix account or by using the Drama Group website www.dramagroup.org and clicking the BookTix link.

Although Staged Play Readings will continue to be provided free to our audiences, this new, pandemic driven method of Bringing Broadway to the South Suburbs does incur some added production costs.  We have added a “Donations Button” to the ticket order page if you would like to help The Drama Group defray the cost of producing these free plays.

SYNOPSIS – THE COVER OF LIFE

Tood, Weetsie, and Sybil are brides in rural Louisiana in 1943. Each married a Cliffert brother. The men are off to war and a local news story about these young wives keeping the home fires burning intrigues Henry Luce, the editor of Life Magazine. He decides that they belong on the cover of Life Magazine and assigns Kate Miller to the story. She has been covering the war in Europe and, though she views doing a "women's piece" as a career set-back, she accepts because it will be her first cover story. Kate spends a week with the Cliffert women and her haughty urban attitude gives way to sympathy as she begins to understand them while coming face-to-face with her own powerlessness in a man's world. Filled with charm and fun, The Cover of Life is a deeply affecting story about the struggle for self-worth.

No matter how they may self-identify, every audience member will see themselves in the characters in this play.
