
The Superintendent of the Indiana State Police, Anthony Scott, has announced the promotion of Sergeant Katie M. Salzman to the rank of First Sergeant. Salzman will serve as the Assistant Commander of the Employment Services & Recruiting Section and oversee the department’s recruiting efforts as well as the various selection and hiring processes for both sworn and civilian positions.
Salzman was born and raised in Fond du Lac, WI, and moved to Indiana to attend Butler University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in 2009. On March 4, 2011, she graduated from the 70th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was appointed as a Trooper assigned to the Indiana State Police Post in Lafayette where she served for two years. In 2013 she transferred to the Drug Enforcement Section where she served on the Homeland Security Investigations Task Force. In 2014 she transferred again and assisted in reestablishing the department’s recruiting section until being promoted to Sergeant in the Employment Services Section in July 2015.
During her career, Salzman established ISP’s internship program and mentored many past interns who are now Indiana State Troopers. She also sits on the committee for the annual Women in ISP Leadership and Mentorship Training. Salzman was recently accepted into the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s Master’s Program through the Naval Postgraduate School where she will study Homeland Security with an anticipated graduation in March 2027.
Salzman resides in Montgomery County with her husband and three boys.
