Dear Lookingglass Theatre Community,
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved board member, Brenda Langstraat Bui. Brenda was a steadfast champion of Lookingglass and the treasured President and CEO of the Chicago Public Library Foundation. She was a visionary leader, and a deeply compassionate presence whose belief in the power of theatre—and in the people who make it—never wavered.
Brenda brought extraordinary generosity of spirit to our board. She led with clarity, kindness, and purpose, always centering community, equity, and the transformative potential of the arts. Her wisdom shaped our work. Her optimism lifted us. Her commitment strengthened us. And her warmth touched every person fortunate enough to know her.
We are profoundly grateful for Brenda’s years of service and for the countless ways she helped guide Lookingglass with grace and courage. Her legacy lives on in the stories we tell, the artists we support, and the community she helped nurture.
We hold her family, friends, and all who loved her in our thoughts. As we move forward, we do so with deep appreciation for Brenda’s life and with renewed dedication to the values she championed so wholeheartedly.
