Lowell- On Thursday June 16, 2022, eighteen probationary status troopers graduated from the Indiana State Police 82nd Recruit Academy. From this group of newly appointed troopers, the Lowell Post welcomes Trooper Kaylee G. Galvan to the ranks of District 13.
Trooper Galvan is a native of Lake County and currently resides in Hammond. She is a 2018 graduate of Munster High School and has attended both Bethel University in Mishawaka and Indiana University Northwest in Gary studying criminal justice. She is on schedule to graduate this fall with a bachelor's degree. Trooper Galvan enjoys several hobbies and physical fitness to include running and rock climbing.
Trooper Galvan and each of her classmates have completed 1,200 rigorous hours of structured law enforcement curriculum to get to this first milestone in their young careers. Their training curriculum while at the academy included criminal law, traffic law, emergency vehicle operations, physical fitness, psychology, vehicle crash investigation, self-defense, use of force, first responder, firearms training, and other general law enforcement related training requirements.
With the academy behind them, these probationary troopers now begin their next phase of instruction, which is a three-month field training period where they will be working alongside and under the close supervision of a Field Training Officer. Once they have successfully completed the field training program, they will then be assigned a state police patrol vehicle and begin their solo patrol duties. Trooper Galvan’s primary area of assignment will be Lake County. As a public servant, Trooper Galvan will be expected to fully immerse herself into the communities in which she lives and works. So, if you happen to see her out on patrol in your neighborhood, please take a moment to introduce yourself and establish a positive relationship with Trooper Galvan.
