Master Trooper Jeff Council has retired after 33 years of service to the citizens of Indiana. M/Trp. Council graduated from the 49th Indiana State Police Academy class of 1991.
In 1986, Jeff graduated from Hobart High School where he played baseball and tennis. After graduation, he attended Indiana University Northwest where he studied Criminal Justice and received his bachelor’s degree in 1990. After graduating from the Indiana State Police Academy, he was assigned to the Toll Road Post until he transferred to the Lowell Post in October 2001 where he was assigned zone 2 (LaPorte and Porter Counties).
During his distinguished career, Jeff has been recognized many times for his selfless acts. An example of his compassion is in 2011 when he was recognized by the City of LaPorte for saving a suicidal man from jumping off a bridge. Jeff risked his own life, climbing over the wall and grabbing the man before he could jump. Over the years, Jeff also received numerous letters of commendation from citizens that he had assisted. He was recognized several times by the LaPorte County Drunk Driving Task Force for his efforts in removing impaired drivers from our roadways. Since 2007, Jeff has had 12,375 traffic contacts, and thousands more prior to 2007. Jeff also was assigned as a detective with the Indiana Gaming Commission and assigned to the Majestic Star and Blue Chip Casinos.
M/Trp. Council’s most proud moment as an Indiana State Trooper was when his son, Kevin Council, was also hired as a Trooper in 2020 and Jeff proudly pinned Kevin’s badge on his son’s uniform at his graduation ceremony. In his free time, Jeff enjoys hunting and fishing.
The Indiana State Police congratulates Master Trooper Jeff Council, and thanks him for his distinguished career and service to the citizens of Indiana.
