The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) received two grants from the Economic Development Administration (EDA). NIRPC received funds from the EDA CARES Act Recovery Assistance Grant totaling $583,000 to capitalize and administer a Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) to make loans available to small businesses in Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties that have been impacted by the coronavirus. This financing will assist businesses in recovering and responding to the impacts of the pandemic. Efforts will include the hiring of additional staff to provide capacity-building and technical assistance.

Earlier today, the Big Ten Conference announced that due to health and safety concerns raised by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all Big Ten fall sport intercollegiate athletic competitions have been postponed.

The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) will perform in the sprawling meadows at Friendship Botanic Gardens (FBG) for an enchanting evening for families and adults on Sunday, August 23 from 6:30 PM - 7:45 PM.

Faculty members from Purdue University Northwest (PNW) will offer a series of interdisciplinary lectures and discussions during the academic year of 2020-2021, about race relations and racism in America. 

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch today announced the official launch of an arts, cultural and Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) grant totaling $10 million in financial assistance. The funding for this grant program comes from the CARES Act. In a partnership, the Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC) and the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) will provide economic support to local organizations whose normal operations have been disrupted due to COVID-19.

Attorney General Curtis Hill is warning Hoosiers to beware “storm chaser” scams in the wake of severe weather. “Storm chasers” are home-repair contractors who show up in neighborhoods after thunderstorms, tornadoes, floods or other weather events to sell their services.
