Buffalo Theatre Ensemble (BTE), the professional equity theater in residence at the McAninch Arts Center was honored in the category of “Non-Profit of the Year” at the 56th Annual Glen Ellyn Community Awards held at the Abbington Distinctive Banquets on Tuesday, Feb. 11. BTE Artistic Director Connie Canaday Howard, with members of the Ensemble and Board of Directors, was on hand to accept the award on behalf of all members of BTE.

Chicago Fire FC announced today that the Club has signed Academy product Brian Gutiérrez to a Homegrown Player contract. Gutiérrez, 16, has been a standout in the Academy since 2015 and marks the 16th Homegrown signing for the Fire in Club history. He is under contract with the Fire until 2023 with a Club option for 2024.

Chicago Fire FC today announced an expanded Pub Partner Program for the 2020 MLS season, bringing Chicago Fire road matches to 26 local bars and pubs – up from nine in 2019 – and 16 neighborhoods across Chicagoland. Official watch parties will take place at select pubs for every away match. Locations will be announced throughout the season.

Footlight Players current production of the musical GYPSY opened on Friday to great applause. The show is listed as a memoir of the great burlesque queen, Gypsy Rose Lee, but we really see the story of the epitome of bound and determined stage mothers. Mama Rose is expertly played by newcomer to Footlight Caroline Rau. Her voice is strong and exhilarating from her first song, Small World up to the dramatic conclusion, Rose’s Turn. Let me preface this critique with acknowledgement of the many cast and crew members that it took to expertly put on this epic of a musical. THIS SHOW SAHOULD NOT BE MISSED!
